Seeds for Eco Communities

Laura Blease is the founder of Seeds for Eco Communities (SFEC), an Ontario based not-for-profit organization – with a global vision.  SFEC was established in 2016 and provides information, tools and resources to individuals who are seeking to move the yardstick on reducing their carbon footprint, with a focus on sustainable off-grid living.  Laura wear’s many hats at SFEC, as a member of their Board of Directors, Advisory Committee, the treasurer and she plays a leadership role in a number of activities and events to support new partnerships and growth of the organization.

Laura is also a Senior Policy Advisor with the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks, supporting ministry efforts for the past 17 years.  Laura has had the opportunity to work on multiple pieces of legislation and regulations in a variety of topic areas such as the Great Lakes, water, wastewater and stormwater management, excess soil and brownfields, Lake Simcoe, cage aquaculture and drinking water protection.  In this role, she has had the wonderful opportunity to work closely with a number of Indigenous communities and organizations, in building partnerships and a voice at the table in ministry policy and initiatives.  Most recently, Laura played a leadership role in the development and delivery of the excess soil regulation.

Presentation: Moving the Yardstick on Sustainable Off-Grid Living in Ontario

This presentation will provide an overview of what sustainable off-grid living in the Ontario context really looks like. Emerging government and non-government initiatives, programs and organizations which are moving towards this type of framework and lifestyle will be highlighted. In this session, you will learn about some of the opportunities and challenges with establishing off-grid ecologically sustainable communities in Ontario – and how to get involved.

This presentation provides an overview of Seeds for Eco Communities (SFEC), an Ontario based not-for-profit organization – with a global vision, who are supporting sustainable off-grid living in a community setting. During this session you will learn about a variety of different approaches, tips and tools that can be utilized to work with your local government and your local community to make the transition into a more sustainable low impact life. At SFEC, by providing a network, support and necessary tools to get started – our vision is to make sustainable living attainable and accessible to all who are interested.
